Waveny Tailgate Party a Success!
The weather Saturday evening couldn’t have been more perfect for a successful 3rdAnnual Tailgate at Waveny Park. After a week of heavy rain, which drenched the fields and made them too damp to have the event behind the main house, Brock Saxe, the event chair, scrambled to relocate it to the parking area near the soccer fields. His hard work paid off and hundreds of people attended and went all out with their festive tailgates, ranging from elegant sit-down affairs to a “Whiskey Bar” and “Waveny Paddle Club’s Boat Bar.” The evening hit a high note when everyone gathered to dance to the amazing rocking music of the Short Bus, who gave Waveny a big hip hop shout out.
It was truly a tremendous community moment where the attendees all raised funds for the Waveny Park Conservancy’s landscape restoration projects. These include the trail from South Avenue to the Main House, the Cornfields, the Parterre Garden, and the upcoming pond restoration. The Conservancy has been working closely with the Town of New Canaan and the Garden Club to complete these projects. The Conservancy is thankful to the community and the New Canaan High School Class of 1993, who held their reunion at the Tailgate, for turning out in support of the Conservancy’s efforts to maintain and restore the grounds of Waveny.
