Driveway Landscaping
In 2022, 10,000 native plants were added along the main drive from South Avenue to Waveny House, including rhododendrons, azaleas, and a variety of ferns. Both the South Avenue and Lapham entrances were elevated with new plantings.
Project Background
One of the first Conservancy projects was to create a woodland pathway from South Avenue to Waveny House. That trail meanders through the woods alongside the main driveway providing a more bucolic and safer experience than walking the driveway, itself. The trail has become a popular artery for pedestrians so the goal was to build on this initial project by further beautification of the area.
Project Details
In 2022, The Conservancy undertook a major project with the Town to beautify the area. A simple plan commissioned with Kathryn Herman Design included planting over 10,000 native plants with sweeps of rhododendrons, azaleas, viburnum and a variety of ferns. In addition, both the South Avenue and Lapham Road entrances were elevated with new perennial plantings.
The plants will take several years to mature, but are already beginning to show their colors, especially during Springtime.
