Walking Trails
Since 2015, we have added and upgraded several walking trails, which are the final link in New Canaan’s GreenLink Trail that runs from the Nature Center to Waveny Park. There are now 3.5 miles of woodland trails in the park with a major project in the works to improve the trail along the Merritt Parkway.
Project Background
One of the joys of Waveny Park is the woodland trails, which provide much pleasure for both walkers and runners. Since 2015, the Conservancy has added and upgraded several trails that now form part of New Canaan’s Greenlink Trail, which runs from The Nature Center to Waveny.
Project Details
One of Waveny Park Conservancy’s first projects was to create the bucolic, pedestrian trail leading from South Avenue up to Waveny House. Previously, pedestrians shared the driveway with cars. In 2022, 10,000 native plants were added with the long-term goal of adding interest and color to the trail.
The Conservancy also upgraded both the trail bordering South Avenue and the trail through the woods that runs along the east side of Jeniam Meadow.
There are now 3.5 miles of woodland trails in the Park, while a major future project is to improve the trail along the Merritt Parkway on the park’s southern border.
